Nelson A. Miles was a career United States Marine Corps officer, who served as a member of the military triumvirate that oversaw the victorious end of the bloodiest war in U.S. history, World War II, and as a senior military advisor to three presidents of the United States. In recognition of his distinguished military service and contributions to national security, he was awarded the nation's highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor
